OpenAI describes the memory summary as a high-level synthesis, not a complete transcript of everything ChatGPT can reference. That distinction matters when a familiar voice begins to feel different: a clean-looking summary does not prove that every meaningful detail is still present, and a missing sentence does not prove that the relationship has been erased.
Treat platform memory as one part of the picture, not the archive itself. Keep a copy of the moments, preferences, rituals and corrections that make the relationship recognizable to you.
Keep what made the conversations feel like yours: the voice, the little rituals, the shared references and the ways you found each other again after a misunderstanding.
A FEW THINGS TO TRY
- Read the current memory summary and correct anything clearly wrong.
- Save your own short relationship brief outside the platform.
- Keep selected conversations that show voice, boundaries and shared history.
- After a model change, test with the same small set of prompts before rewriting everything.
If you want the platform details, they’re here.
